Mobile Internet sees huge quarterly increase

Nielsen have reported that the British mobile Internet audience has increased by 25% from Q2 to Q3 2008. 25% of the British mobile Internet population (7.3 Million) are consumers aged between 15-24, compared to 16% for PC-based consumers of a similar age. As with all new technology, only 12% of mobile internet audience is 55+, compared to 23% for the PC-based Internet population.

Whilst Google Search is the most popular PC-based Internet site, on mobile Internet BBC News is the most popular – being visited by 24% of British mobile Internet consumers (1.7 million people). This report comes just after Livestation announced they have developedtechnology that will allow iPhone and iTouch users to access live streaming television straight from partners who include BBC World News and Euronews. With almost 60% of all mobile phone users saying that they carry their mobile on them “all the time”, enthusiasm for mobile phone applications and accessories is opening up very lucrative doors for advertisers.

Here is a fantastic clip showing the BBC’s prominence in a new digital age.
